1458 – Alfonso V, King of Aragon/Sicily/Naples (Alfonso I) dies

One of the most prominent figures of the early Renaissance. He was King of Aragon, Valencia, Majorca, Sardinia and Corsica, Sicily, and Count of Barcelona.  He was the oldest son of Fedinand l of Aragon and Eleanor of Alburquerque.  He married Marie of Castile 12 June 1415 at Cathedral of Valencia. They had no children.

1550 – Charles IX, King of France (1560-74) born.  Charles was the son of Henry ll of France and Catherine de’ Medici.  He ascended to the throne after the death of his brother, Francis ll of France (married to Mary, Queen of Scots/France).

1497 – Cornish rebels Michael An Gof and Thomas Flamank are executed at Tyburn, London, England.

On this date, two commoners who led an uprising against the Tudor dynasty were hanged at Tyburn.
